Our philosophy is based on providing high quality, innovative and explicit teaching programs that are targeted to address student learning needs within small classes. Teachers identify, plan and design learning opportunities which meet the outcomes identified in the Australian Curriculum.

Because we are a small school we are able to develop and share effective understandings about the needs of individual students, leading to the building of positive relationships and a culture of high expectations for all students. Our regular assemblies provide opportunities to celebrate student achievements and to recognise students who have demonstrated our core school values (Respect, Responsibility, Including Others and Doing Your Best).

Specialist teachers provide weekly lessons in Music, Health and Physical Education and a Landcare Program which incorporates the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program. Students from Grades 2 to 6 are able to participate in various music extension programs which include choir, marimba and guitar, depending on their age. During weekly Landcare lessons students work in the school vegetable gardens and produce is used during cooking lessons. Health and Physical Education includes Learn to Swim programs for Kinder to Grade 6 students as well as Cross Country, Swimming and Athletics Carnivals. Students who perform well at these carnivals are able to represent the school at district level.

Visiting performances and excursions throughout the year provide experiences to enhance the learning program in a range of curriculum areas and classes have ready access to the Marine Discovery Centre, often visiting it at least once a term.

We believe that developing positive relationships with families is crucial for maximising student learning and teachers make regular contact with families if they are concerned about student learning or behaviour. Staff are also very appreciative of any time parents and carers can give to supporting classroom and school activities.  All parents and carers are encouraged to contact their child’s class teacher if they are concerned about anything – we are always happy to help.
